21 Hidden Facebook Features

There are hidden gems around every corner, in movies and shows they are called Easter eggs, well don’t leave Facebook out.  Our favorite Social Media guru has packed its platform with a wealth of goodies and we’re going to share them with you.  Thanks to PC Mag for some of the tidbits!

Bonus Movie Fun Easter Egg – The minion Toy in the Lorax.

Fun with Emojis.

1.Your INBOX is waiting

That’s right, there is an inbox of messages in FB.  Once upon a time it was called the “Other” folder and is now a message request folder.  This is a request area for all the people that you are yet to be friends with, or potential spam, it’s hard to tell.  To review, click the “Messages” icon on your homepage.

  1. Snooping and Security

You can tell if someone is logged into your account.  Stroll over to the “Security” folder and view where you are logged in.  If there are results you don’t like, you can end the activity and close the session

  1. Secret Emoji’s

You may know the basic ones that you create with the keyboard.  Check out the list and start using them.  http://www.symbols-n-emoticons.com/p/facebook-emoticons-list.html

  1. File Transfers

When you open your next FB messenger window, look to the top right corner and take notice of the “Gear” icon, one of the options is to add files.  That will allow you when you fancy to upload computer files to transfer, the recipient will get a link to click on and can download on the other end.

  1. Insane Easter Egg

Here is a strange tidbit for those that want to play around a little.  You can make your FB turn into Pirate speak, or even upside down!  Yes, to play with this, go to General Account Settings and head over to “Language”.  What do you think?

  1. Super Post / Blog

There is a place to create personal blogs.  When ready, https://www.facebook.com/notes – You can see notes from others, and create your own.

  1. FB Romance History

Yes there is a history for your significant other and yourself.  https://www.facebook.com/us – check out the complete history since you’ve joined!

  1. Save Posts

Sometimes you want to follow a link and cannot, but when you return the post is gone – well, er, uhm, not really.  When viewing a post, click on the arrow at the top right of that post – and save link.  Once you save something for the first time, there will be a “Saved” Ribbon in the left hand Favourites bar.  It works for stories and videos.

  1. FB History

Everything you’ve ever shared, yes it’s been recorded.  Go to your Settings, and the General tab, click on the link for “download copy of FB data” and follow the written directions.

  1. Posthumous Control

There is the option for legacy control on FB.  Now bear in mind, this person may write a pinned post in your profile, reply to friend requests, or update your information.  This is under your Settings tab, Security and of course Legacy Contact.  Likewise, you can choose to delete the account upon your demise.

  1. Additional Security

There is the ability to add security to FB.  This can help protect your identity.  Make FB ask for a “Log In Approval” which again is under the Security tab in your Settings.  In addition you can create Trusted Contacts that will help to identify you so that you may log into your account if you need to regain access.

  1. Mute those pesky Live Notifications

Now that FB offers “Live” videos on mobiles, sometimes it can be annoying – especially the branded ones.  In order to turn them off, click the inverted arrow next to the notification and choose “Turn off notifications”

Movie Fun Easter Egg – They even were doing it in the 80’s. Ever realized Packman was chomping pellets in Tron?

Bonus Movie Fun Easter Egg – Man of Steel while fighting Zod a Keep Calm call Batman poster can be spotted.

Security setting for Facebook.

  1. Turn Off FB’s ability to track your Mobile Browsing

Yes FB gave users more control over the ads it presented to consumers, however, what they failed to inform you was that in order to do that they monitor your app and web browsing history to target the ads.  Unfortunately you cannot opt out, but you can surf in peace and private.  (Now supposedly there is a 3rd party site that allows you to opt out – http://www.aboutads.info/choices/ – please if any reader checks it out….)

  1. Interest List

It’s FB’s idea of a Twitter list.  It’s a little diddy that compiles curated collections of posts from websites or people that you follow – in one streamlined feed.  On the left side, click on “Interests“ link and hover over the header to click on “More”.  On the page that opens, click “Add Interests” and now you can search and follow your own or people that have made theirs public.

Bonus Movie Fun Easter Egg – E.T. brethren spotted in the republic during the Phantom Menace.

Payment settings for Facebook.

Bonus Movie Fun Easter Egg – R2D2 spotted from the Enterprise in both new Star Trek Movies.Look to the left.

  1. To Mute an Ex

Yes, with FB’s help, we can see less of an ex’s posts.  Change your status to single, and then FB will automatically jump in and ask you if you like to see less of this person.  Scary but kind?

  1. Spy on Friends

If you really want to know the history between friends, or detailed posts, FB is there to help.  When you see a post from a friend – click the little arrow in the top right corner of the post and click on “More Options”, then click on “See Friendship” option.

  1. Edit your Ad Preferences

When you follow certain people or brands, the ads you then see will change in response.  You may change that, go to your Settings and click on “Ads” and “Edit”.  Once there click “Ads based on my Preferences”.  This is the fun part, you’ll see what FB has determined to be yours!

  1. Send Money

Yes I did type that.  You may transfer money from computer or mobile through your FB – provided both have debit card.  Check out “Settings” and “Payments” to enter your debit card.  In the messenger window with a friend, click the dollar sign icon at the bottom of the window to send or request!

  1. BDay Cam (iOS)

Yes there are bday reminders, but now with iOS app, you can record 15 second video for a friend.

  1. 360 Pics

360 Pics are becoming more and more popular as they offer an entire field of vision.  When you use your smartphone to capture a panorama or photosphere pic, you can now upload it on FB.

Have any awesome Easter Eggs you have come across? We want to know share them in the comments!

Clickbait and Trenches https://adzory.com/clickbait-and-trenches/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=clickbait-and-trenches Wed, 21 Sep 2016 01:28:49 +0000 http://adzory.com/?p=1736 The post Clickbait and Trenches appeared first on Adzory.

Clickbait and Trenches

Remember the statement, video killed the rock star?  Could it be happening all over again, history repeating itself again?

Way back in 2014 Facebook announced their intentions to suppress clickbait, knowingly stating that stores with Clickbait Headlines will drown out content from friends and pages that people may actually care about.  (Forbes, Amit Choudry, FB is going to suppress “Click-Bait” articles, 08.02.2014).  Did that happen?  No!
This year, clickbait will be the death of journalism according to PBS (PBS, Jefferey Dvoikin, Why Clickbait will bring about the death of journalism -07-15-16).  Now, kindly, take a step back a moment and indulge me.  Do we need to blame the battleground of digital technology for the decline in newspapers and broadcasting?  Is digital continually foraging a path or is it destroying centuries of creativity and productivity?  How would we feel if we’re the rat of rat of racing for the new millennia?  Is it so far-fetched?  Look at all we have accomplished, we employ Air B&B without hotels, and Uber, without cars to accommodate our needs.  Do we need the journalists of old, or should we sell out to free-lance writers that bring their own spin to the material?  Could be we possibly selling ourselves short?  Were we really getting unbiased news before?

There is the ease with the new deal, a built in cost effectiveness, and simplicity that goes along with digital, however, wages, working conditions, and company morale seem to take a swim in the toilet.  Unions, even journalistic heavy hitters, are powerless, accepting their choices and influences, because they know they are now limited.  Smaller companies and start-ups, are now seeming to thrive.  Those that once never posted news of substance, yes you know what I mean, the cat videos of the world, like Buzzfeed, have been able to easily raise 850 million to get their foot in the door in 2015 to cover the news and film industry.  You know with the pressure on legacy media, was it a matter of time?  Conflicting ideas? Or were we rife with strife and begging for something new to come along?  Those that have been doing this a long time or those we need to thank for “clickbaiting” – And before you think you know the rest of the sentence, you don’t.  It’s not those with the new businesses and start-ups, it’s the oppressed legacies out there, those old edifices that are trying to compete in a different market outside their comfort zone.   I’ve done the research, in order to compete, we’ve forced their hand – and in order to survive, they’ve partnered with financial backers through ads and other innovative methods to create click bait.

So now on the edge of our seats, we want to know, what exactly is clickbait right?  We’re all aware that when links are posted to headlines – they can encourage people to click over to see more of that swimmy headline, it’s enticing, it’s promising, and has a big button that says click here for more information.  A lot of times we are game, hoping to get that scoop, but as time has gone buy – those links have become more and more vague.  You don’t know if you are going to get the latest in the article that you are reading, or if a cartoon axe is gonna pop out and whack you in the kisser and that might be all there is to your clickbait.  So you’ve lost time, clicked away from your article, some arse somewhere is calculating the analytics that you cannot stay on a page – and overall you’re let down.  So much in fact that you may just say forget it to what you were reading in the first place.  Now if you’re like me, you say “f” it – and don’t try and make your way back.  Besides, the internet IS one of those rare places, where in 29 seconds you can get lost again.  They know this, and it’s no accident.  Obviously clickbait bears out in the long run, and for those with a small attention span, one of these Twitter kings, it may be the best thing since sliced bread.

Clickbait is rarely newsworthy, but oh it gravitates us towards hitting that button just to see what’s on the other side.  We know there is nothing monumental or life changing, yet we love having that tidbit the next morning at the coffee maker or ice cooler yes?  It was explained to me that it’s not really news, but it is eye candy and in this day and age of digital clicks, where we employ people to do actuary work but on a sublime level of the amount of clicks ensued, we have  to come up with something that will steal people away even for a moment.  There are algorithms’ out there right now being drawn up to determine if a website is real or clickbait, just by the amount of time you and I spend on them.  If we open and close them immediately, then they have utterly failed with their clickbait nuances, however, given a certain amount of seconds, it becomes “made you  look” – and there is potential for selling and such down the line, as they have identified the type that are interested in the clickaroo sites.  Now add money into that and corporate ads.  Sponsors that have paid to have good intentioned journalists articles in the midst, in hoping that even if one person clicks, then well money is made.  In the day and age of cat video mega clicks, what is a self-respecting journalist supposed to do to make ends meet?  Not employed steadily by the big boys, free-lancing when they can, is this the next step?

I wanted to try and create a few part article this week where we discuss, clickbait yes, but then there are some other shady things we need to reveal – such as like-baiting (just to get the hell away from pop-ups – we agree and minimize things we don’t care about, but THEY do) and even better, I want  a forum, start thinking now – when did journalism die?  Was it recently with the advent of like-baiting?  Click-baiting?  Or think back further, was it in the 80’s with news dumping and MSNBC and CNN?  But then it may go back even further when investing in the news was money and it turned into pleasing shareholders?  Call me a fiery red head that knows nothing, (You know nothing John Snow) perhaps there was never unbiased news as far back as we know?  It is always told from someone’s angle yes?

Put on your thinking caps, Adzory wants to know, and we’re calling you out.

Happy Tuesday  from the trenches

Social media marketing, do I really need it?

You have the business, the coffee cup, and the bills to keep you up at night. You are industrious and proud and know you do great work.  That alone has allowed you to establish some clients. From those clients, word of mouth is great and the news is spreading – it is just offering a slow return.  Everywhere you look you are exposed to various forms of social media and are feeling overwhelmed.  When did the computer go from AOL to tweets?  How are you supposed to find the time, and is it really that important?  Of all the various marketing availability out there where do you even begin?

I am here to tell you that social media marketing is not only here to stay, but, Relevanza (www.relevanza.com) reports that 78% of small businesses attract new customers through social media!  How phenomenal is that for a statistic?  75% of Americans online say product information that is found on social media, influences their shopping behavior and adds to brand loyalty (Forbes, 04/16/2013).  Social media trails the television by only 3 percentage points in reaching US shoppers for advertisement of a new product (www.eventility.com).  In a few years, it is predicted that social media may be more important than television advertising.  Now, having just read this, and knowing something different than you did five minutes ago – can you really afford not to take advantage of social media marketing?

Often once you set up your webpage, it remains static.  The designer, you or another, has created this lovely webpage and there it is.  You are proud of it, and it reflects your product or service and you remotely manage through Google Analytics to make sure that you are getting the foot traffic you desire.  However, static doesn’t attract new customers.  Social media, however, should be constantly changing.  It should have new content often.  There should be posts and reviews, comments, basically lots of activity.  It lets the public know that the brand, your brand is active!  Facebook is imperative, especially when there is the power to like a business.  Ballihoo reports that 63% of consumers are driven to use local businesses with information linked to social media sites (www.balihoo.com/blog).  Bear in mind, what nourishes you can also destroy you, if you have a site and there isn’t a post, an endorsement, a tweet – that may make customers think your business is defunct or that you ignore your populous – so stay engaged!

Finally, and this is where you are, social marketing increases sales.  Sales increase revenue.  And revenue pays the bills that keep you up at night when you aren’t thinking about your product and services that you provide.  You’ve taken the plunge and believed in yourself enough to start your business.  Invest in yourself, by taking the time to manage your business smartly.  I know, I know, there is not enough time in the day and you are spread thin.  Know when to invest in yourself even more, and let Adzory walk you through the maze of social media marketing.  We know the ins and outs of social media, and are happy to develop a maintenance plan to ensure that your site is constantly updated and active.  We realise there are many ways to advertise your service and or product.  Some of these pull directly from social networks like setting up a Facebook store with apps such as Ecwid or Beetailer.  We are happy to develop a Twitter page and if you have an Amazon.com page – have a checkout straight from the Twitter feed!  We have developed ways to sell on Pinterest, YouTube, and various other social networks.

As a professional representative of your company we know what marketing strategies will work for you, and in what capacity to drive traffic your way.  Don’t lose out on valuable marketing because you are new to social media.  Let us help.    Adzory, YOUR AdStory.
